TOOLS FOR CREATING RUBRICS

Image
A rubric is a scoring tool that helps educators to see if the learners meet the syllabus expectations. It measures what is learnt, how much is learnt, what needs improvement, etc. Therefore creating effective rubrics depends on defining clear objectives and criteria.  Today, there are a lot of technological applications that help teachers create effective rubrics. I suggest reading the article on eductorstechnology.com for some effective rubric creating tools. One of them is RubiStar . Below is a sample rubric created for the comic project in my previous post.

Project-based learning is one of the most effective learning approaches used by a lot of educators. The benefits of this approach are countless. It encourages critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and self-learning motivation.  As technology advances, the integration of technology into project-based learning has become inevitable. You can assess students' learning easily, you can encourage them to join in some academic contests, get them to connect with other students around the world to collaborate and learn.  On technokids.com you can find more about integrating technology into project-based learning. storyboardthat.com is one of the tools teachers can use for instruction, assessment or projects. Here is a sample of how ESL teachers can use this tool for project-based learning.

According to www.bussinessinsider.com : 'Google Forms is free online software that allows you to create surveys and quizzes.  It's part of Google's web-based apps suite, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and more. It's a versatile tool that can be used for various applications, from gathering RSVPs for an event to creating a pop quiz. You'll need a Google account to create a Google Form, but you can adjust the settings so that anyone can fill it out, meaning no Google account is required.' I have used google forms for surveys before. And posted my survey on this blog. Now, just to show how google forms can be very useful in teaching, I also created a course evaluation form. Click on the image below to see the evaluation questions.

Subject samplers are another way to teach students using technology. You can create a page on some applications and put some information about a topic. You can include some links for articles, videos or activities related to the topic you want your students to learn. You can also add some activities for your students to carry out to assess the learning. Below is an example of a subject sampler.
